You have wings. Learn to use them and fly. -Rumi

You were born with potential.
You were born with goodness and trust.
You were born with ideals and dreams.
You were born with greatness.
You were born with wings.
You are not meant for crawling, so don't.

You have wings.
Learn to use them, and fly.

Night Life in Vegas

Tuesday night October 12, 2010 @ Moon in the Palms
Moon marked our first night out in Vegas and we kicked it off high roller style. Our host provided us with the sweetest spot in the club, a corner balcony table with an incredible view of the strip. The DJ was awesome! I don't think I stopped dancing for one second, luckily I had several dancing partners courtesy of TC.

Wednesday night October 13, 2010 @ Ghost Bar in the Palms
Another fun night at the Palms. The music was a crazy cacophony of mixes, so not as great as Moon. The clientele was just as mixed from men in suits, to break dancing crews and a smattering of locals...my favorite part of the evening was my dress and the crazy cab ride home. Mike and I were crying we were laughing so hard. All the laughter worked up a hearty appetite satisfied by the "Woody Allen" @ Carnegie Deli. Yummy pastrami, but of course my heart still belongs to the pastrami @ Katz in New York.

Thursday night October 14, 2010 @ Tao in the Venetian
By far the craziest night! Our amazing friends Ken and Roxie flew in from San Diego, we did a little gambling and of course Mike, as always, walked away with some winnings from his game, Roulette. After some drinks at the Mirage bar, we headed over in a limo to Tao. Another great table with amazing views of the club and another night of non-stop dancing. Tao's dark corners, red hues, beautiful staff is quite the hedonistic playground...the quintessential Vegas experience.

Be Impeccable With Your Word...

Some of my favorite quotes from some of my favorite authors:

Don Miguel Ruiz:

“Don't Make Assumptions. Find the courage to ask questions and to express what you really want. Communicate with others as clearly as you can to avoid misunderstandings, sadness and drama. With just this one agreement, you can completely transform your life.”

“Always Do Your Best. Your best is going to change from moment to moment; it will be different when you are healthy as opposed to sick. Under any circumstance, simply do your best, and you will avoid self-judgment, self-abuse and regret.”

“Don't Take Anything Personally. Nothing others do is because of you. What others say and do is a projection of their own reality, their own dream. When you are immune to the opinions and actions of others, you won't be the victim of needless suffering.”

“Be Impeccable With Your Word. Speak with integrity. Say only what you mean. Avoid using the word to speak against yourself or to gossip about others. Use the power of your word in the direction of truth and love.”

"When you love, whatever you do is because you want to do it. It becomes a pleasure, it's like a game, and you have fun with it. When you love, you don't expect something to happen; whatever happens is okay, and hardly anything disappoints you."

"Your reactions are the key to having a wonderful life."

"Your whole life is nothing but a dream. You live in a fantasy where everything you know about yourself is only true for you. Your truth is not the truth for anyone else."

"Personal importance or taking things personally, is the maximum expression of selfishness because we make the assumption that everything is about "me". "

Paulo Coelho:

"Join with those who sing songs, tell stories, enjoy life … because happiness is contagious. Join those who walk with their heads high even when they have tears in their eyes. Avoid those who … have never shed a tear."

"If only everyone could know and live with their inner craziness…people would be fairer and happier."

"Freedom is not the absence of commitments, but the ability to choose--and commit myself to--what is best for me."

"We wouldn't worry nearly as much about what others thought of us if we recognize how seldom they do."

"Everyone seems to have a clear idea of how other people should lead their lives, but none about his or her own."

“There are few things as seemingly untouched by the real world as a child asleep.”— John Irving

"Disbelief in magic can force a poor soul into believing in government and business." — Tom Robbins

"Our lives are not as limited as we think they are; the world is a wonderfully weird place; consensual reality is significantly flawed; no institution can be trusted, but love does work; all things are possible; and we all could be happy and fulfilled if we only had the guts to be truly free and the wisdom to shrink our egos and quit taking ourselves so damn seriously." — Tom Robbins

"It's never too late to have a happy childhood." — Tom Robbins (Still Life with Woodpecker)

Night Life in DC

Going out in DC can sometimes be just as political as the backdrop of the city. Depending on the hot spot and just how hot it is, you may encounter long lines and discriminating tastes based on your apparel. If you are looking for a moderate lounge/bar with less partisan appeal DC has those too. Some of our favorites...

http://www.eighteenthstreetlounge.com/  The Eighteenth Street Lounge, where one of my all time faves Thievery Corporation got their start is a relaxed, swanky yet unpretentious lounge. Eclectic music, guests and exceptional service.

http://thegibsondc.com/ The Gibson is very much the modern day speakeasy. You wouldn't know it was there unless you knew exactly where you were going. The bar decor is dark, the booths deep, the music low and the drinks outstanding. Not very many places offer speciality drinks with Absinthe as a main ingredient and actually get it right. By far the best martini I have ever tasted... the mixologists at The Gibson are masters. Definitely a place you want to visit early in the evening, so you can appreciate the perfection of the libations served here.

http://www.currentsushi.com/ Current Lounge. High energy dance beats, an array of beautiful people, strong drinks and fast service, and a guaranteed good time. This was the place to be on Saturday night. Current has definitely raised the bar for all other DC lounges to meet. From the welcoming vibe at the door (thank you Mr. Nayef  Issa), to the quick and competent bartenders (you will never be thirsty in this place) the positivity never ceases. I was even amazed by the gentlemen who were security and I call them gentlemen because they held out their hands to guide me past long lines or crowded areas ensuring I was not bumped or bothered in anyway. We definitely plan to revisit Current again and again and again....
